Procurement glossary

RFP (Request for Proposal)

A solicitation asking suppliers to propose a solution to a defined need, evaluated on technical merit as well as price.

In depth

An RFP is used when the buyer wants proposed approaches, not just a price — common for consulting, IT, and complex services. Evaluation is typically weighted toward technical quality, methodology, and past performance, with price one factor among several.
